Location: Tianjin City
 
To balance the development within greater Tianjin City, the City commissioned a competition to transform the north western sector into a new mixed use government district with a strong commercial hub taking advantage of proposed rail links connecting directly to Beijing, only one hour away. The plan encompasses a region that stretches 13km wide east west and 9km north south.
 
The master plan skewed the regional grid to allow the road and utility systems to integrate the new development with the existing southern development. The plan extends the grid of the city and creates a strong formal center with neighborhoods becoming less formal as they move outward to the north.  Existing and new proposed industrial areas are combined into mixed use townships with supporting housing and commercial components to provide sustainable communities in terms of housing and jobs.  The entire plan supports a new regional grid that can be extended further as population growth demands.
