Location: Beaufort SC

One of the nearly 100 projects and initiatives identified by the Civic Master Plan is the land-side of the existing marina site in downtown Beaufort, currently occupied by a surface parking lot.  The underutilized property offers a unique opportunity to extend its current main street and reintroduce the City’s dockside character, which was torn down to make way for the Water Front Park.  The Civic Master Plan recognized the value of incorporating a larger program to include a parking garage one block to the northeast on a predominantly vacant block.  The synergy between the two sites would permit a denser and more diverse program, as well as providing greater flexibility in funding and potential partnerships.  The redevelopment of the two sites would also enable the clean up and modernization of the existing marina facilities and spur the funding and construction of a boardwalk along the river to the west of the site.
