Covering approximately 1,300 hectares the Yan Shan New Township is designed to provide a range of housing opportunities for residents.  In an effort to reduce the monotony of the standard Chinese apartment tower block, and provide variety in terms of family needs the Master Plan incorporates densities along a range of levels from single family house lots to multifamily apartment buildings.  The townships neighborhoods support two commercial precincts which will employee many of the residents.  Access to these two centers is by means of transit.

An extensive open space network formed by the numerous rivers that run through the site provides access to natural areas for all residents within walking distance.
